How to choose an OEM battery manufacturer
Choose a manufacturer that can match your standard, hold quality systems, and repeat your specification order after order.
1. Match the standard family
Your market determines the standard: JIS, DIN, BCI, AS or SA. Confirm the factory regularly produces that family rather than treating your order as a one-off.
2. Check quality systems
Ask which certifications the manufacturer holds. For automotive supply, IATF 16949 is the relevant quality system; ISO 9001 covers general quality management.

3. Verify factory capability

A five-point decision framework
Score each manufacturer against the same five questions instead of comparing marketing claims.
- Specification — “Which standards and models do you produce in-house?”
- Certification — “Can you share current IATF 16949 / ISO 9001 certificates?”
- Scale — “What is your daily output and how does it map to my annual volume?”
- Repeatability — “How do you lock a specification so repeat orders match?”

Lead-acid-specific checks
For lead-acid, the highest-risk checks are process checks, not marketing checks:
- Grid alloy — maintenance-free batteries normally use lead-calcium grids; confirm the alloy is stated.
- Paste consistency — ask how paste is controlled between batches.
- Curing — verify the plate curing window is sufficient, normally 2–4 days.
- Formation — confirm the battery is fully formed and 100% end-of-line tested.
