How to audit a lead-acid battery factory
A factory audit is how you verify that a battery manufacturer can deliver your specification repeatably — not just once. Run these checks before committing volume.
Certifications
Request current certificates, not claims. Chengguang Energy holds IATF 16949, ISO 9001, ISO 45001, OHSAS 18001, CE.
Production capability
Check factory area, number of production lines and daily output against your annual volume. Chengguang Energy operates a 200,000 m² plant with 18 lines producing 40,000+ batteries per day.
Quality control & testing
- Incoming material inspection
- In-process checks (grid casting, pasting, curing, formation)
- 100% end-of-line electrical test
- Batch traceability
- Lab testing for CCA and capacity
Export readiness
Confirm export experience, documentation capability and destination markets. Chengguang Energy exports to 70+ countries.
Audit scorecard
- Certification — current certificates are visible and verifiable.
- Capacity — plant area, lines and output map to your annual volume.
- Quality — in-process and end-of-line tests are documented.
- Export — destination markets and document capability are clear.
Use the same four columns for every factory, then compare against the Dingwei factory overview as a worked example.
What to bring home from an audit
- Current certificates
- Sample of a recent production run
- A specification sheet for your reference model
- Agreed commercial terms

The ten stages to audit
Walk the factory in the order the battery is made. For each stage, ask what is measured and how rejects are controlled.
- Grid casting — check grid thickness and alloy consistency.
- Paste mixing — check mix control and batch records.
- Pasting — check plate weight and paste application.
- Curing — check time and conditions; a typical window is 2–4 days.
- Assembly — check plate alignment and separator handling.
- Welding — check inter-cell and terminal welds.
- Electrolyte filling — check acid volume and density control.
- Formation charging — check the charging profile and duration.
- Sealing — check lid, vent and leak control.
- Testing — confirm 100% end-of-line electrical test plus CCA and capacity sampling.
Take this sequence with you, and compare it to the documented checks on the OEM battery supplier checklist.
Lead-acid audit is simpler than lithium
Lead-acid audit effort concentrates on process consistency and raw materials. A lithium-cell audit adds cell safety and thermal-runaway controls; lead-acid does not carry the same cell-safety audit burden. That makes the lead-acid audit shorter and easier to standardize for OEM buyers.
