OEM vs ODM vs private label
All three models let you sell batteries under your own brand. The difference is how much of the specification and design you control.
Definitions
- OEM — you define the specification and branding; the manufacturer builds to your requirements.
- ODM — the manufacturer owns a ready design; you select it, adapt branding and optionally request changes.
- Private label — a supplied product carries your name, label and packaging.
Which one fits your sourcing goal
Choose OEM
When you have a defined technical specification and need exact control.
Choose ODM
When you want a proven platform and faster time to market.
Choose private label
When the priority is brand identity on an existing product.
What stays constant
Whichever path you choose, verify the standard family, voltage, capacity, CCA, dimensions, terminal layout, certifications and export terms before ordering.

Which model fits you?
Choose by the asset you already have, not by the size of the first order:
- You have a specification or design capability — choose OEM, because you control the product definition.
- You want a proven design and faster launch — choose ODM.
- You want to test a market under your brand — choose private label.
If the answer changes by model or market, run each line through the OEM battery specification guide before splitting the program.
The cost of getting it wrong
Choosing the wrong model costs twice: either you pay development work that should have been ODM, or you sign an ODM agreement expecting to own the design and later find the manufacturer owns it. The commercial fix is to state ownership in writing — not to assume the model name transfers the design.
Keep that ownership distinction visible when you compare supplier responses with the OEM battery supplier checklist.
