The OEM battery development process

OEM development is a gated process. Understanding the stages tells you where to be involved and where to insist on sign-off.

Short answer: OEM battery development moves through consultation, specification, design and branding, sampling, mass production, quality inspection, and shipping. Buyers should be most involved at specification, sampling, inspection and shipment, because those are the gates that prevent specification drift.

The seven stages

  1. Consultation
  2. Specification
  3. Design & branding
  4. Sampling
  5. Mass production
  6. Quality inspection
  7. Logistics & shipping

Why gates matter

Each gate is a decision point. Skipping a gate is how a specification drifts and a repeat order comes back different.

Where the buyer must sign off

Four gates need a buyer signature, not just a manufacturer confirmation:

  1. Specification — sign every parameter, including the CCA test basis.
  2. Sample — test the pre-production sample before approval.
  3. Quality standard — agree acceptance criteria before mass production.
  4. Shipment — confirm the documents before release.

Skip one gate and the next order can drift from the approved sample. Keep the sign-off sequence tied to the OEM program phases so both sides know where approval is required.
